Retrofit Hardware

The green roof retrofit system uses a 1/2”x30” earth anchor that is screwed in to the dirt a minimum of 24”. By anchoring the supports in the earth, the roof brackets are relieved of major wind loads. Anchors are placed on opposite sides of the building. The support wire extends from one anchor up over the building to the the anchor on the other side. Turnbuckles are used to keep a slight tension on the wire. The wire is galvanized #9 Hi-tensile steel.(see caution at bottom of page)

The GUTTER BRACKET 1 transitions the wire from vertical to the pitch of the roof. The pipe is bent to the angle of the roof and can be adjusted to offset the gutter if there is one on the building. The brackets are attached with 1 1/4” S.S. metal roofing screws. The bracket must be laid on a bed of urethane caulk and the screws must be inserted through the bed of caulk to insure a watertight installation.

The ROOF BRACKET 1 is installed in the middle of the roof. Spacing of this bracket is dependent upon the wind load factor for your area but normally they are spaced every 12’ to 16’ along the support wire in the field of the roof. Most installations will have one ROOF BRACKET per wire on each side of the roof.

CAUTION: Hi-tensile wire can be very

dangerous.  When you cut it with pliers

it makes two sharp ends. If you roll out

a length of wire to cut off, it has a lot of

stored  energy from the temper in the wire.

You must secure the wire on both sides of

the cut. An unsecured wire will spring back

by as much as half its length in the blink

of an eye. Don’t let it get your eye or the

eye of a bystander. Always secure the

wire on both sides of the cut before you cut ………………And wear your

safety glasses.
